I don’t know if it is because my first daughter is buried 6 feet underground and her death inspired me to search out what it means to live, or it if it stems from the fact that I grew up off-grid, barefoot and wild, with scraped knees, twigs in my hair, wild berries on my lips, and wild flowers in my pockets. I don’t know entirely why, but I am obsessed with real, palpable, sweaty, gritty, beautiful life. I revel in it. I chase it. I soak it in.
Everything you see me capture is real. I ventured outdoors and got my hands dirty. I breathed in wild, unpolluted air, and ran my hands down the bark of the trees. I picked the arnica flowers and rubbed their centers between my fingers so I could lift my hands to my face constantly and breathe in the scent. I ate the apples and removed my shoes so my feet could absorb the microbes in the soil. I slept on the bare ground so the earth could heal my weary body when I grew tired. I explored and marvelled at the way the light filters through the leaves. I spent countless hours with mother nature, learning from her, so I could share her beauty with you.
When I teach in-person workshops, it is because I have spent hundreds, and sometimes thousands of hours in any given place scouting the area. I have studied the light and the landscape and the way it all fits together to show you the most magical places I have ever experienced so that you may experience the beauty for yourself. I teach you how to find and use these magnificent places so that you have the tools you need to find and create magic of your own. So that you can find your own endless source of wonder and magnificence and create everything you dream in the core of your artistic being.
I am not a quick fix. I am not an easy ticket to instant cash-flow and mass-production. I AM work. I will work you HARD and critique your every move until you see the world with fresh eyes. I will teach you what I know until you grow so deep and wide your roots reach the farthest reaches of the world. I will do so until you no longer need me because you can create your own magic from your own sacred spaces.
I revolt against an increasingly digital and virtual world. I prefer the one wild and beautiful life I am living. I promise, if I am blessed enough to have you in front of my lens, or as a student of mine, I will share it with you. Every breath, in real time.
Love, Cass
